USZ has been one of the best universities in Hungary since 2012 (QS World University Rankings). Our student body grew to 21000, in which the number of international students exceeds 4000 coming from 115 countries. USZ has long standing experience in artificial intelligence research focusing mainly on deep learning based natural language processing, software engineering and image processing topics. One particular area of interest is the medical domain in which USZ has extensive experience both in medical text and image processing tasks. The applicability of the acquired knowledge is demonstrated in projects like Telemedicina (GINOP-2.2.1-15-2017-00073) and currently in AUTORAD (2020-1.1.2-PIACI-KFI-2020-00072). AUTORAD is an AI assisted decision support system for the detection of common pain related pathologies on spine. Apart from academic research the University works together with esteemed multinational corporations on various AI related projects.

Role in Metastra

Within the METASTRA project, the University of Szeged (USZ) will be developing a deep learning based, segmentation quality assurance tool, that will automatically screen manual segmentations and highlight potential inconsistencies. USZ will contribute to the development of the METASTRA-AI module by ensuring that only high quality data is used for model training.
